Chapel Window 2—The Incarnation

Welcome back to Windows Wednesday! Today, we are examining Chapel window 2, the Incarnation. Following the general theme, we see the first of the Father’s acts of creation depicted by His angels at the top of the window observing the event below. The second area depicts the Son at His birth in Bethlehem, the incarnation of Christ. The Child is protected by Joseph and Mary and the occasion is observed by a shepherd. As with many of the windows in the chapel, the interior lower third of window 2 is blocked by pews, and so is only a colorful pattern, as seen in the design. Take note of the background motif in the middle section. While it contributes to the general feel of the Chapel as a whole, it can be difficult to notice the continuing pattern of colors in the room itself. In the designs, one can easily see the flow from window to window, connecting the story of Jesus’ life. Scroll over or tap the image below to see the original artist’s design.

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.” Colossians 1:15
