This week in Crisis Counsels our focus is on Jeremiah’s book of Lamentations, which is essentially one long lament over one of the worst disasters in the history of Israel — the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem, which resulted in the destruction of the city and the deportation of many people into exile. Yet in the midst of his consideration of the whole crisis, the prophet Jeremiah turns his heart to God, and finds hope in the assurance of God’s faithfulness and mercy. His expression of trust continues in this verse:
I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.
Lamentations 3:24
Jeremiah knows that the resolution of the present crisis will not be immediate – something that we know as well! Yet he is ready to wait for the unfolding of God’s goodness. We likewise are encouraged to rely upon God and to look with patience toward the unfolding of God’s purposes.
