This week in Crisis Counsels we are looking at the main “bright spot” in the book of Lamentations, where, out of the midst of a time of great anguish, Jeremiah looks to God and finds reason for hope. We have looked so far at chapter 3, verses 19 through 24. The next verse says:
The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him
Lamentations 3:25
Every Sunday we begin worship with the statement, “God is good, all the time.” Here is something of the Biblical foundation of that statement. Jeremiah is in the midst of a very difficult time, yet he can affirm that “the Lord is good,” because he knows the nature of God and finds his sure hope in God. The verse ends with the encouragement that we should “seek God.” Jesus gives us the same encouragement in the Sermon on the Mount, when in the midst of a discussion about all the worries of life, Jesus said, “Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all else will be given to you.” (Matthew 6:33) In these present trying times, we need above all to seek God, for then we will know God’s goodness today.
