God Lifts Up the Lowly

Do we count for anything on this earth? Against the backdrop of world or even national affairs, it often appears we are nobodies. But the story of Christmas Eve proclaims precisely the opposite message; for God’s great work unfolds through the most ordinary people—a small-town carpenter, a poor young woman, and a ragtag band of shepherds. And the birth of the Savior is in a barn! So God declares that it is ordinary people who are the locus of God’s work, and it is in ordinary places that God’s purposes unfold.

So we are not nobodies in this world; we are of infinite value to God! Along with Mary and Joseph and the shepherds, we can take our place in God’s purposes today, we can lift our faith and our praise to God, and we can be a part of God’s great story of salvation.
