Sanctuary Window 8—Son of God—C

Welcome to another Windows Wednesday! In recent weeks, we have been examining the Son of God window, Sanctuary Window 8. Today, we will look at its lowest panel, showing the Holy Spirit at work in the present day. The bottom section of the window shows an astronaut on a space walk. Free floating in space, with the large moon at his back, the astronaut looks down at the small Earth below and the complexity of the solar system, and he marvels at God’s creation.

As with the Transfiguration and the revelation to Abraham above it, this panel of the window reflects on how we relate to God and how God relates to us. These connections and relationships exemplify different aspects of God’s connection to us: familial with Abraham the patriarch, unity with Jesus the Son, and Creator to created as in today’s section. God, as our divine Parent, provides for us both physically and spiritually, “As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you.” (Isaiah 66:13). He created us in His image, and we can witness Him in everything around us. As this panel demonstrates, we should not demand miraculous visions as proof of God’s existence, when everything around us shows the work of His hands.

O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.
Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have founded a bulwark because of your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger.
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established;
what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?
Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor.
O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Psalm 8:1–5, 9
