Crisis Counsels from the Scriptures #22

In Crisis Counsels we are considering Psalm 42, where the Psalmist confronts a time of great trouble. At the center of the Psalm is this verse:

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help and my God.

Psalm 42:5

We could speak these exact words to ourselves, whenever we are “cast down” and “disquieted.” We need to remind ourselves that we have reason for hope! We can look to God, who is our help, and who cares for us with infinite compassion. The present pandemic has caused a great deal of disquiet in our society generally. But we need not be cast down, when we put our trust in God. We may not know how many things will unfold; but we can indeed hope in God and continually lift our praise to the Lord.
