King of Our Hearts

May all kings bow down to him
and all nations serve him.
For he will deliver the needy who cry out,
the afflicted who have no one to help.

Psalm 72:11–12 (NIV)

I have always loved advent and the advent wreath. As a child growing up in a faith filled home of a pastor, the four of us siblings took turns lighting the candles. Some years we had a candle that we burned each night at the dinner table with markings for each day of advent. Each night we would burn the candle to the next mark. It was a great way to anticipate the coming of Christmas.

As a faith filled adult all of my life I cherish those childhood memories and try my very best to live out a deep faith honoring God as the king of my life, as the one instructing us how to live our lives here on Earth bringing about God’s reign of love and a meaningful life of service and ministry. Jesus said that the poor will always be with us. Honoring God as Lord of our lives we, as Christians, we have a deep responsibility to care for those with all kinds of needs. We are to give generously to help where we can. We are to work for wholeness and justice in a world where it’s hard to find. God works through our lives, our hands and feet, God works through our faith expressions.

Prayer: Thank you dear God for coming to us is Jesus the Christ child. Thank you for calling us to service and ministry among those who need your touch in body, mind, and spirit. Thank you for empowering your people, your church, your community as ambassadors of grace and peace. Fill us again as we slowly move toward Christmas and the King of Kings. Use us to tough hearts and homes. Bless your servants both here and around the world doing your work not just in this season but all year long. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen
