Crisis Counsels from the Scriptures #47

This week in Crisis Counsels we have been looking at verses in the book of Proverbs, one of the “wisdom books” in the Bible. Our final verses this week are:

Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for wisdom is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.

Proverbs 3:13–14

Lots of money channels on TV or advertisements from financial institutions will speak to you about getting a good return on your money; but who speaks about finding wisdom? Actually, that would be God’s Word! The Scriptures guide us to the greatest treasures; and, as these verses point out, the wisdom that comes from God brings by far the greatest “return.”During this pandemic, people are rightfully concerned about the state of their bank account and their retirement plan, and good financial advice is always important; but we do well to realize the supreme value of growing in wisdom. Elsewhere, Proverbs says that “reverence for the Lord is the foundation of wisdom.” (Proverbs 9:10) Of all the things that grab our attention these days, may our greatest attentiveness be directed toward God and the opportunities we have to grow in God’s ways.
