Crisis Counsels from the Scriptures #56

Today in Crisis Counsels we conclude our reflections about Psalm 60, one of the “psalms of lament” in the Bible. The psalm begins by lamenting the great trouble that has fallen upon the people, then looks to God in faith. The psalm closes with these verses:

O grant us help against the foe, for human help is worthless. With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes.

Psalm 60:11–12

The key concluding point is “human help is worthless”; it is only with God that “we shall do valiantly.” When we rely on ourselves – or human leaders – alone, we rely on far too small and imperfect a power! The psalm directs us to the source of genuine help, for it is God who will “tread down our foes.” No matter what challenge we or our society may face, we will find the guidance and the strength that we need when we lift our hearts to the Lord.

Prayer – In You, O God, is our help; we place our trust in You. Click To Tweet
